New style!

Sat Jul 25, 2009, 6:28 AM
Discovered a new style that I can do, like to do and like the results too.
My personal style, perhaps?
I don't know.

Perhaps, perhaps.

I have been trying too hard to do illustrations.
The styles that I don't like.
Forcing myself to develop in styles that I didn't like and can't do well in.

Resulted in a burn-out.

Anyway, I'm back on my feet again.
Feeling rather inspired lately.
Love this new style that I have discovered I can actually do.
:D

Not too late to change my personal branding...the resumes have not been sent out yet.
Phew.

Questions

Mon Jul 6, 2009, 9:43 PM
Is design mostly about copying?
Copying and editing?
Ripping from existing styles and then just adding a little something more to it and then call it your own?

There are some 'designers' whom I have seen that are completely unoriginal and it is obvious that they have copied their works from someone else.
The similarities are so glaringly obvious, yet they call themselves 'designers' and have people admiring them because either those people do not know of the original works, or do not know how to design at all so they admire whoever is able to open up photoshop/illustrator/any other design program and produce something on it. (such as adding their own name to a ripped work)
Ripping of ideas is the most common of all.
Something new comes out, BANG!!!, out comes 10 others with exactly the same idea, but IMPROVED and NEWER&FRESHER.

Originality doesn't sell.
Ripping and then adding just one small little bit of originality (which only amounts up to 1/10 of the originality of the original piece of work LOL tongue twister!) is what makes you gain recognition, money, fame and all that shit.

This is an issue that I have been having a problem with, and can never seem to get past.
No, I am not jealous of anyone or anything.
It's just another part of this world which I am unhappy about.
(like the evils of marketing, exploitation, discrimination etc.)
Maybe, like exploitation of the poor, it is a problem that can never be solved.
It's like the global warming of the design industry.
Lol,

What's the point of putting things up and releasing things to the public if it is gonna get ripped anyway?
Have to weigh up the pros and cons, I guess.

Creative commons exist, but are they effective?
What is the extent of originality?
But then again, without copying from existing good ideas, will people be able to produce better things?
Use the tried-and-tested-and-proven-effective method first, and then improve on it to succeed.
Is it the only way?

I am inundated by questions which I should not be bothered about at this current stage of life I'm in.

Give me a reason

...to continue designing.

How I wish I can turn back time.
Who doesn't?
